Apple has chosen their new leader in John Ternus, who assumed the role of CEO from September 1st, 2026. With Cook’s tenure coming to end, it’s all on John to take Apple forward from here on.
Apple is a company with a valuation of $4.5 Trillion. Steve Jobs started it with his friend, Steve Wozniak, and led the company till 2011, when Tim Cook led the helm of the company, and he took the $300 Biilion company to the current valuation with innovative designs and a strong work ethic. After 15 years, Tim Cook surely have left Apple as one of the world’s biggest brand ever.
As Tim stepped down from CEO, John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, is CEO of Apple from September 1, 2026, and Tim Cook has assumed the role of executive chairman. As Tim has navigated the company to new heights, it’s clear that Ternus would be compared to his predecessor as CEO. It is to keep in mind that Ternus is an Engineer and Hardware veteran rather than a supply-chain executive.
John Ternus joined Apple in 2001 as hardware engineer and he was involved in major Apple products and hardware development. The main difference between Cook and Ternus is that Cook focused more on operational and supply-chain expertise whereas Ternus’ hardware excellence will be tested in a more managerial and executive role. Apple’s board chose an internal successor rather than an external one to save time, resources and speed up the process to take Apple even further.
Time Cook took over the Apple CEO role in 2011, when Steve Jobs stepped down as the CEO. Tim Cook had huge pressure on him, coming right after Steve Jobs, one of the most legendary entrepreneurs ever. When he started out, there was certain pessimism regarding his leading capabilities and if he’ll be able to lead Apple without Steve Jobs. But he proved himself after Job left the company.
Cook took Apple financial growth to new heights under his leadership, the company grew from $350 billion in value to around $4.5 trillion by the time he announced his departure. Annual sales grew from $108 billion to $416 billion, which made Apple one of the biggest cash positive company. His notable achievements include that he made Apple venture into service industry and started Apple Music, iCloud, Apple TV+, Apple Pay, the App Store and other services, which became one of Cook’s most strategic achievements.
John Ternus is set to handle the helm of the company and since he was a hardware engineer, we might see Apple double down. on hardware aspects of the company. Will John be able to surpass Cook’s legacy at Apple, or will he mark his own era?
