Club Brugge beat Inter 4-3 on a Nicolò Tresoldi hat-trick, Viking fought back from 2-0 down to hold Bayern München 3-3, and Atlético Madrid beat Manchester United 2-0 on the first Tuesday of Champions League matchday 2.

Inter 3-4 Club Brugge. The night’s biggest shock came in Milan, where 22-year-old Nicolò Tresoldi scored all three of Brugge’s first goals. He put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot in the 30th minute, and after Lautaro Martínez levelled just before half-time, Tresoldi struck again in the 63rd and 74th minutes, both set up by Carlos Forbs. Lautaro scored a second in the 81st minute, but Romeo Vermant restored the lead for Brugge in the 87th. UEFA’s match list credits Ange-Yoan Bonny with Inter’s other goal. It was Inter’s second defeat in two games after losing 2-1 at Real Madrid on matchday 1.

Viking 3-3 Bayern München. Bayern, who had beaten Bodø/Glimt 5-0 on matchday 1, were stunned in Norway. Gianni Stensness headed in an outswinging corner just over a minute into the game and Peter Christiansen added a second, so Bayern trailed 2-0 at half-time. Harry Kane then scored twice and set up Luis Díaz for a 3-2 lead, extending his Champions League scoring streak to nine games. But Michael Olise was sent off in the 73rd minute for a second yellow card after throwing the ball at Viking captain Zlatko Tripić, and Herman Haugen equalised in the 90th minute.

Atlético Madrid 2-0 Manchester United. Atlético took the lead after just 47 seconds, when Pablo Barrios finished a simple ball over the top. The game stayed at 1-0 until the 74th minute, when United defender Leny Yoro was sent off for denying Jonathan David a goalscoring chance after a review by the referee, a decision described by Sky Sports as controversial. Ademola Lookman scored the second in the 79th minute. United, who had thrashed Sabah 4-0 on matchday 1, now stretch their winless run to five games, according to Sky Sports.

Galatasaray 1-4 Barcelona. Barcelona came from behind in Istanbul. Aleksei Batrakov put Galatasaray ahead in the 28th minute, and João Cancelo levelled on the stroke of half-time, in the 43rd. Barcelona then blew the game open in a 15-minute spell after the break, with Férmin López scoring in the 50th minute, Anthony Gordon in the 53rd on his first Champions League start, and Karim Adeyemi in the 65th. Lamine Yamal, quiet in the first half, was named player of the match. It followed Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Feyenoord on matchday 1.

Arsenal 3-0 Lille. Arsenal won their second game in two matchdays, following the 1-0 win at Napoli, but the Emirates crowd waited until the 64th minute for a breakthrough. Jurriën Timber scored it, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper, and Eberechi Eze made it 2-0 three minutes later. The third came in the 71st minute and is credited to Bukayo Saka on Arsenal’s match report, although UEFA’s list shows Kai Havertz. Lille, who lost 3-2 to Real Betis on matchday 1, were beaten for the second time in the competition.

Lens 0-2 Sporting CP. Sporting CP won in France thanks to goals from Luis Suárez and Issa Doumbia. The result made it two wins in two for Sporting after their 3-1 victory over Galatasaray, and Suárez became the club’s outright all-time top scorer in the modern competition, according to UEFA. He was named player of the match. Lens, who had beaten Slavia Praha 3-2 on matchday 1 thanks to a late goal, lost for the first time.

Sabah 2-0 Slavia Praha. The Azerbaijani club recorded their first-ever win in the Champions League proper, with goals from Kaheem Parris and Joy-Lance Mickels, who was named player of the match.
