Amazon has replaced its whole Kindle range with thinner, lighter models that have flush-front screens. The basic Kindle starts at $149.99, the Paperwhite at $199.99 and the colour-screen Colorsoft at $289.99.

Amazon has introduced a completely redesigned Kindle family, covering the standard Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite and the colour-screen Kindle Colorsoft.

The company announced the new e-readers on October 1.

What Has Changed

Every device in the range now has a flush-front display, with no raised border around the screen. Amazon says this comes from a new “reverse stack” display construction, which it describes as a first for e-readers.

The colour of each device now wraps from front to back. New colours include Ube (a purple), Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green and Graphite.

The New Models and Prices

  • Kindle (6-inch): 16GB of storage, up to six weeks of battery life. From $149.99
  • Kindle with aluminium back: 32GB. $189.99
  • Kindle Paperwhite: waterproof, up to 12 weeks of battery life, 16GB. From $199.99
  • Paperwhite Signature Edition: 32GB. $249.99
  • Kindle Colorsoft: colour display, 16GB. From $289.99
  • Colorsoft Signature Edition: 32GB. $319.99

The Basic Kindle

Amazon calls the new 6-inch model the most pocket-sized Kindle it has made. It says books open 30 percent faster than on the previous version.

For the first time, the standard Kindle is also sold with an aluminium back, made from 80 percent recycled aluminium.

Paperwhite and Colorsoft

The new Paperwhite is thinner and lighter than before, and Amazon says it has the largest Paperwhite display to date, with the highest contrast ratio.

The Signature Editions of both the Paperwhite and the Colorsoft add an aluminium rear housing, an auto-adjusting front light and the ability to turn pages with a double tap.

New Accessories

  • Kindle Click ($34.99): a Bluetooth page-turning remote, compatible with the new devices and any Kindle model from 2024 or later
  • Page-Turn Cover ($79.99): a magnetic cover with physical page-turn buttons, for the Signature Editions
  • Charging Dock ($59.99)

Kindle by the Numbers

Amazon said Kindle has seen double-digit growth globally for three consecutive years, and that more than 720 billion pages were read on it in 2025.

Availability

The standard Kindle went on sale on the day of the announcement in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Australia, among other markets. The Paperwhite and Colorsoft are becoming available for pre-order in the same regions.

Versions for children, sold with 12 months of Amazon’s Kids+ service, start at $179.99.
