Jamie T’s Ghosts (100 Days of Morning) went straight to No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart for the week of October 16 to 22, 2026, with Chase & Status’s Generic Everything entering at No. 2, according to the Official Charts Company. Olivia Rodrigo’s You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love stayed at No. 3 in its 18th week, and The Essential Michael Jackson stayed at No. 4 in its 280th week. Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving rose from seventh to fifth, Sienna Spiro’s Visitor was sixth, Fleetwood Mac’s 50 Years – Don’t Stop seventh, Oasis’s Time Flies – 1994-2009 eighth, Troye Sivan’s She’s the Best a new entry at No. 9, and The Weeknd’s The Highlights tenth.
The case that new music is thriving is made by the entries. Three of the top ten albums are new this week, at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 9, and two of them, Jamie T and Chase & Status, took the top two places over albums that had been charting for months. Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving, which has peaked at No. 1 and is in its 55th week on the chart, climbed two places, and Sienna Spiro’s Visitor, in its 15th week, is sixth with a peak of No. 2. Olivia Rodrigo’s album, in its 18th week, is third, so six of the ten places are held by albums that have been on the chart for 55 weeks or fewer.
The case that catalogue titles dominate is in the same table. Four of the top ten are long-running albums: Oasis’s Time Flies has been on the chart for 684 weeks, Fleetwood Mac’s 50 Years – Don’t Stop for 413, The Weeknd’s The Highlights for 297 and The Essential Michael Jackson for 280, a total of 1,674 weeks between them. Oasis and Fleetwood Mac both rose, from tenth to eighth and from ninth to seventh, and The Weeknd rose from 11th to tenth. Troye Sivan’s new album entered only at No. 9, so the new entries below the top two are modest. The Official Charts Company compiles the albums chart from sales of CDs, downloads and vinyl as well as audio and video streams, so a place in the top ten reflects several kinds of listening. Jamie T and Chase & Status both debuted at their peak positions, No. 1 and No. 2, while Troye Sivan’s No. 9 is the album’s peak so far.
The chart matters for the British music industry because it shows how many different kinds of music compete for attention, from a songwriter to a production duo, and how long-running albums stay in the top ten. New albums must compete with the catalogue as well as with each other. For Jamie T and Chase & Status, a top-two debut is a commercial success in a market where Oasis and Fleetwood Mac still sit in the top ten.
Jamie T took No. 1 and Chase & Status No. 2, but the top ten still holds four albums that have been on the chart for years. The week shows a healthy mix of new and old, with older music far from gone.
