At a sold-out Madison Square Garden show on Saturday, Harry Styles asked the crowd to “take a moment to think about Oscar Belgal”, a 28-year-old man shot by an ICE officer in the Bronx this week. Styles urged fans to “look after each other”.
During his sold-out Madison Square Garden show on Saturday, October 10, Harry Styles stopped to ask the crowd to think about Oscar Belgal, Billboard reported.
What He Said
“I just want us to take a moment to think about Oscar Belgal tonight,” Styles said, guitar in hand, before performing “Sign of the Times”. He did not say “ICE”, but seemed to refer to the shooting and the administration’s deportation agenda.
“I want us to just think, [to] remember, to just look after each other,” he said. “It is up to us to make the cities that we live in places we want to see… the people you love, the people who don’t look like you and aren’t born where you are from: they deserve respect, love, dignity.”
Fans filmed the moment and posted it on TikTok.
What Is Known About the Shooting
Belgal, 28, was shot in the neck on Thursday in the Marble Hill area of the Bronx, while his 5-year-old son was in the back seat of his car, according to New York Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch. She said plain-clothes Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers surrounded his car as he reversed into a parking space, that it began to move forward, and that at least one officer fired seven shots.
The child was physically unharmed and is with a family member. Belgal was taken to hospital and is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
Competing Accounts
- Federal officials described Belgal as an “illegal alien gang member” from the Dominican Republic who refused to get out of his car and “smashed into two government vehicles”
- Commissioner Tisch said he has two prior arrests in New York: a 2023 robbery case in which he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny and received five years’ probation, and a 2025 drug-sale arrest that is still pending
- Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the shooting “an outrage”, saying agents wore masks and construction vests and could not reasonably be identified as ICE
The Residency
Styles’s 30-night run at the Garden, titled Together, Together, is on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays through October 31. Night 22 is on October 14.
He has also extended his touring into 2027 with stadium dates in cities including Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, Toronto, Atlanta and Chicago, ahead of a summer European leg. His fourth album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in March.
