Recent Developments

In April 2025 Aponte was reported to have been personally involved in brokering a $19 billion port deal with the Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing. In April 2026 the family announced that it had transferred ownership of MSC from Gianluigi Aponte to his two children, Diego Aponte and Alexa Aponte Vago, with Gianluigi remaining executive chairman.

Why It Matters

MSC is a privately owned global shipping and cruise group, and its succession to the Aponte children shows how its family keeps control.
