Mohamed Salah has made the fastest start the Turkish Super Lig has seen. An assist in Trabzonspor’s 3-0 win over Samsunspor took him to seven goals and three assists in his first seven league games, a record for the competition.

Mohamed Salah has set a record in Turkey’s top division, Al Jazeera reported on October 11.

The Egyptian forward now has 10 goal contributions in his first seven Super Lig matches for Trabzonspor, the most by any player at that stage.

The Numbers

  • Games: 7
  • Goals: 7
  • Assists: 3

The tenth came on Saturday, when he set up a goal in Trabzonspor’s 3-0 win over Samsunspor.

How He Got There

Salah, 34, joined Trabzonspor in August on a two-year contract. The move was seen as a surprise at the time.

He was a free agent, having left Liverpool at the end of last season.

Crowds of supporters turned out to greet him when he arrived in Istanbul to complete the transfer.

His Start in Turkey

  • Debut: as a substitute in a 1-1 draw with Kasımpaşa on the opening day
  • A month later: a hat-trick and an assist in a 4-0 home win over defending champions Galatasaray, their first defeat of the season
  • October 10: an assist against Samsunspor to reach the record

About Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor are seven-time champions of Turkey. They finished third last season.

Why It Matters

Salah is Egypt’s captain and spent the best years of his career at Liverpool. Seven goals in his first seven league games show he has lost little of his edge at 34.
