‘Other Mommy’: Bad Reviews, Big Opening
Rob Savage’s horror film, starring Jessica Chastain as a sinister entity that appears in a girl’s closet, beat Universal’s projection of $20 million. Its budget was $19 million.
Audiences gave it a D+ CinemaScore, the lowest grade for any film since Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis in September 2024. It holds 19 percent from critics and 46 percent from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The studio credits an unsettling trailer that ran before The Odyssey with creating buzz.
‘The Social Reckoning’: Below Expectations
Sony’s film, with Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White and Jeremy Strong, was expected to open at about $7 million. Its budget was $30 million, and it earned a B- CinemaScore. It holds 54 percent from critics and 71 percent from audiences.
For comparison, The Social Network opened at around $22 million in 2010. Strong plays an older Mark Zuckerberg in the new film, replacing Jesse Eisenberg, and Sorkin directs in place of David Fincher.
