Netflix has released the first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, which sets the creation of Narnia to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”, with Meryl Streep voicing Aslan.

Netflix released the first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, directed by Greta Gerwig, on 14 October 2026, according to IndieWire, TheWrap, NarniaWeb and Netflix’s Tudum site. A search summary of the coverage says that the trailer shows a rock-inspired vision of the creation of Narnia, set to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”. IndieWire’s headline calls it a stairway to Narnia built as only Gerwig could build it.

The film will be in cinemas on 12 February 2027, with IMAX sneak previews on 10 February, and on Netflix on 2 April 2027, according to Netflix’s Tudum. The gap between the cinema release and the streaming debut is 49 days, a count by Delima News from the two dates.

The cast includes Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep, with the newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell in the leading young roles, according to Netflix’s description. Streep voices the lion Aslan. Other coverage names Carey Mulligan and Ciarán Hinds among the cast, but Netflix’s own summary did not list them, so those two names are not confirmed here.

The Magician’s Nephew is the story of the origins of Narnia and, according to Netflix’s description, the book has not been filmed before. It travels back to the creation of Narnia and follows C.S. Lewis’s prequel in the Chronicles of Narnia, which Lewis published after the better-known The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The latter detail is general background and is not drawn from the trailer coverage.

The film is part of a larger Netflix plan. Collider’s headline says that the film officially begins a new era for the company, and describes Gerwig’s fantasy franchise. The article was not opened, so Delima News does not set out what the new era means or how many films are planned.

The release strategy combines a theatrical run with streaming. The 49-day gap and the IMAX previews show that the film will be given a cinema run before it reaches Netflix. The sources reviewed do not say in how many countries or cinemas it will open.

The dates can be set against the calendar. The trailer arrived 121 days before the cinema release on 12 February 2027 and 170 days before the Netflix premiere on 2 April 2027, counts that Delima News has made from 14 October. The sources reviewed do not say whether more trailers are planned.

The names in the cast come from different parts of the coverage. The two newcomers, David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, are the young leads, and the adult cast includes Mackey and Craig, with Streep as the voice of the lion, according to Netflix. The roles played by Mackey and Craig are not given in the sources reviewed, so Delima News does not guess them.

Gerwig is an Oscar-nominated director, according to Netflix, and the trailer is her first look at the franchise. The sources reviewed do not give the budget, the running time or the names of the other crew.

The sources reviewed also do not describe the plot as shown in the trailer or reactions to the music, so Delima News cannot say how fans have responded. Brit.co’s headline refers to surprise Easter eggs in the trailer, but it was not opened.

Delima News will report on the film as the February release date approaches.
