Four men advanced to the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters on Wednesday, including Daniil Medvedev, who beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets, and Casper Ruud, who went through when Felix Auger-Aliassime retired.
The Rolex Shanghai Masters, an ATP Masters 1000 event, runs from 7 to 18 October 2026, and its fourth-round matches were played on Wednesday, 14 October, according to the ATP Tour’s results page. Four singles players reached the quarter-finals: Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, Tommy Paul and Rafael Jodar.
The fifth seed Medvedev beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-5. The 20th seed Ruud beat the fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, whose match ended when the Canadian retired with the score recorded as 5-2. The ATP listing does not say why he retired, and the page gives the score as 5-2 without a set breakdown, so the state of the match cannot be described further.
The 12th seed Jodar beat Botic van de Zandschulp 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2, coming back after losing the first set on a tie-break. The 15th seed Paul beat Zizou Bergs 7-6(5), 6-4, winning the first-set tie-break 7-5, as the figure in brackets shows.
The seeds of the four quarter-finalists are 5, 20, 12 and 15, so three of them are seeded outside the top ten. The highest-seeded player in the four matches, the fourth seed Auger-Aliassime, was the one who went out. The sources reviewed do not say which of the other top seeds have already gone out of the event, so the claim is limited to the four results above.
In the doubles, the eighth seeds Theo Arribage and Albano Olivetti beat the third seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 6-4, 6-4, and Francisco Cabral and JJ Tracy beat Robert Galloway and Andre Goransson 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals, according to the ATP.
The singles quarter-finals follow the order of play for the next days, and the final is on Sunday, 18 October. The sources reviewed do not give the quarter-final pairings or the order of play, so the opponents of the four players are not stated.
The wider calendar is clear. The Paris Masters has not yet been played, and the ATP Finals will take place from 15 to 22 November in Turin, Italy, according to the Wikipedia page on the event, which means the Shanghai result affects the race for the Turin places.
The Shanghai result also bears on the rankings. The ATP Finals in Turin, from 15 to 22 November, are decided by the season’s race, and the points from a Masters 1000 title are among the largest on offer outside the Grand Slams, but the sources reviewed do not give the qualification standings or the points at stake.
Only the Jodar match went to a deciding third set, as the scores above show. Tsitsipas was beaten by Medvedev in straight sets, and Bergs lost to Paul in straight sets after taking the first set to a tie-break. The ATP page does not include match statistics or the length of the matches.
Delima News will report the semi-finals and the final.
