LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn have been cast in Molepeople, a horror film about a society living in the abandoned tunnels beneath New York City. Rob Savage will direct, and the film has been given a release date of August 27, 2027.


LaKeith Stanfield and Ben Mendelsohn are set to star in the horror film Molepeople, The Hollywood Reporter reported on October 9.

The Premise

The film follows a man who goes down into the abandoned tunnels beneath New York City, where he discovers a twisted society living under the streets.

Filming is expected to begin at the end of November or in early December in the United Kingdom, according to the publication’s sources.

Who Is Behind It

The producers include Jason Blum, James Harris, and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of Primal, Paramount’s genre label.

The project was previously being developed as an independent film. It moved to Paramount when Lifshitz and Margules set up Primal.

Savage has another horror film, Other Mommy, starring Jessica Chastain, opening this weekend.

The Stars

Stanfield recently appeared in Boots Riley’s I Love Boosters and starred opposite Mark Wahlberg in Amazon’s Play Dirty.

Mendelsohn has just come from the Venice Film Festival premiere of Company, a thriller directed by Casey Affleck.

A Busy Stretch for Blumhouse

The casting was announced on the same day as BlumFest, the studio’s presentation at New York Comic Con, where Stanfield appeared on stage and Molepeople was among the projects teased.
