The Role

Sink would play Alex, the guest of the title.

Alex is a young woman who is thrown out of her older boyfriend’s house in the Hamptons, the wealthy beach area on Long Island. She spends the story drifting through the neighbourhood, looking for somewhere to sleep each night and a party to attend.

The novel was published in 2023, when Vulture called it the unofficial book of the summer.

The Team

  • Writer and director: Lorene Scafaria, known for the film Hustlers and for her Emmy-nominated work on Succession
  • Studios: A24 and Square Peg, the production company of Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen

Square Peg recently produced Bugonia and The Drama.

A Contested Property

According to Deadline, as reported by Vulture, about a dozen other potential buyers were interested before this package prevailed.

A24 and Square Peg are now in “exclusive negotiations” for the rights.

A Change of Pace for Sink

Sink is best known for the Netflix series Stranger Things, and appeared this year in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

She has also taken on smaller, more dramatic work. She starred in The Whale alongside Brendan Fraser, who won an Oscar for the film, and earned a Tony nomination for the play John Proctor Is the Villain.

The Guest would mark a return to that kind of material after two very large mainstream projects.
